Ellison Onizuka Monument- Weller Court

The Ellison Onizuka Monument commemorates the lives of Ellison Onizuka and his six other crew mates who lost their lives in the launch of the space shuttle, the Challenger. The monument is a replicated model of the Challenger. On January 28, 1986, the explosion of the space shuttle occurred 73 seconds after take off, killing all seven astronauts on board. Ellison Onizuka was the first Japanese-American in space.
